Webcam: Pray by Blessed Alvaro's Tomb

May 12th is the liturgical feast day of Blessed Alvaro del Portillo. On Tuesday, from 6 pm to 8 pm Rome time (GMT+2), a webcam will offer live streaming of Blessed Alvaro's tomb, in the crypt of the prelatic church of Our Lady of Peace.

The live-stream will be broadcast through this website and the official YouTube, Instagram and Facebook channels. Those who wish to are welcome to join in a time of prayer before Blessed Alvaro's remains, and to ask him, as the Prelate of Opus Dei recently advised, to intercede for "the intentions that Pope Francis expressed to us in his letter on April 25th" and to "continue asking for the end of the pandemic and for our Lady’s protection for those who are suffering most intensely.”

SINCE 1994, BLESSED ALVARO's Tomb IS IN THE CRYPT OF THE PRELATIC CHURCH OF Our Lady of Peace.

Since 1994, Blessed Alvaro's mortal remains have been kept in the crypt of the prelatic church of Our Lady of Peace. Saint Josemaría was initially buried in this same crypt on 27 June 1975. On the tomb stone, under the seal of Opus Dei, the inscription says, "The Father." After St. Josemaría's beatification in 1992, his tomb was placed below the main altar of the prelatic church.

When Alvaro del Portillo died in 1994, it was decided that the inscription and the dates of Saint Josemaría should be left as they were, and that another plaque could be added with the following inscription in Latin reading: “Where the body of our beloved founder was buried, now lies Alvaro del Portillo, bishop prelate of Opus Dei and first successor of our founder, who lived from 11 March 1914 to 23 March 1994.”
